If you look at it from a business perspective - they are competing websites for the same readership. Someone who wants to advertise on one of these sites might only pick one or the other. So naturally, some "rivalry" will happen.

Oddly enough, at the last forum I was big into (Motor Trend) we had a huge beef with TTAC. The beef was really with Robert Farago himself rather than TTAC as a whole, but we generally disregarded anything they came out with.

In this instance, I didn't see anything particularly anti-Jalopnik here. To be fair, I do consider this to be notably unusual for anything published by Jack Baruth. Really, there's no real problem between TTAC and Jalopnik as a whole. The problem has been with individual characters on either side at any given point in time.

On the TTAC side, it was Robert Farago and the afore-mentioned Jack Baruth. Some people like them, while some people really don't like them at all. Read through both of their material, decide for yourself, and you'll gain a little more insight into the perceived hate between Jalopnik and TTAC.

Yeah I wasn't sure what he was going for here. But i did take away that, according to Jack, Matt's stance on embargos is bad for "quality auto journalism." Maybe Jack just dislikes Gawker in general. I just get the sense that they take shit way too personally sometimes and feel the need to throw punches this way.

I tend to take anything that Jack Baruth, Robert Farago, or Bertel Schmitt put out with a rather large grain of salt, as neither one are particularly in a position to throw stones. The simple truth is that no one is perfect; it's just a matter of which imperfections you can deal with better. In my case, I prefer the imperfections of Jalopnik contributors over those of Jack, Robert, or Bertel.

Might be because I told Jack the TTAC staff articles are a stupid idea. I think he gets mad every time I bring it up, I guess It was one of his ideas. I told him that they don't do shit like that on Jalopnik.

Its funny, I just read the TTAC rant. Jack makes alot of sense, however he writes with a degrading tone about Matt and Jalopnik, like there is an whiff of arogance that he brings with him. I don't usually visit the site much, but I should start to, so that I can see the wider scope of the automotive universe thats on the web. However, reading that rant piece kinda pushed me away. How is the quality of their content on average?

The content is usually pretty good—leans heavily on the business end of things, but generally informative and well-researched.

It's a complicated series of events, some of which have yet to be processed through civil courts, but suffice it to say that it's probably not one of the reasons there's not a U.S. Scirocco. I hear they had to rebuild the whole corner of the motel.
